What changes when you buy through KakoBuy instead of AliExpress?

Most people who search for a KakoBuy spreadsheet already know AliExpress. The useful question is what changes when the same kind of item is bought through KakoBuy from a Chinese marketplace instead. Here is the comparison, with a source for each KakoBuy line.

The trade is simple to state. AliExpress protects you after the box arrives; KakoBuy protects you before it leaves. For a phone case that matters little. For a pair of trainers, where the difference between two batches is visible in a photo of the toe box, seeing the actual pair before paying for international shipping is worth more than a return label you'd have to pay postage on anyway if you changed your mind.

Verdict: For shoes and fitted clothing, KakoBuy's photos-first model is the better protection. For generic small items, AliExpress's return policy is hard to beat.

How fast is KakoBuy compared with an AliExpress order?

Speed is the reason KakoBuy is recommended so often. rep.tools tracked KakoBuy parcels from the moment the shipping fee was paid and found a median of one day before dispatch, with 85% sent within four days outside Chinese New Year. Most agents don't publish a comparable figure at all.

Delivery time is a different number, and it depends on the line you choose. An AliExpress order has two waiting periods — the seller's handling time, then transit — and each store in a multi-store basket runs its own clock. With KakoBuy there are three: the seller's domestic delivery to the warehouse (usually a few days), the warehouse processing that rep.tools measured, and the international line. The middle step is where KakoBuy saves time; the outer two are the same for every agent.

There was one wobble. KakoBuy went down briefly in mid-August 2026, which set off shutdown rumours on social media. rep.tools confirmed it was operating normally again on August 31, and the site was working when we checked in September.

Verdict: KakoBuy gets parcels out of China faster than most agents. It can't make the seller ship to the warehouse any faster.

What does KakoBuy really cost on top of the item price?

KakoBuy doesn't publish a single fee table. KakoGuide lists no service fee on standard orders; rep.tools notes that the fee is displayed per item at checkout, and it is often zero. Payment costs are clearer: rep.tools gives PayPal at 2.9% + $0.30, and KakoGuide describes a handling charge of about 3% on cards.

KakoGuide adds one caution that matters when you compare against AliExpress prices: in mid-2026 KakoBuy's yuan-to-dollar rate ran about 8% above the interbank rate. On ¥200 of shopping, an 8% margin quietly adds ¥16 before any fee is charged. AliExpress shows its prices in dollars already, so the comparison is only fair once you convert the Chinese price at KakoBuy's rate, not Google's.

Storage is generous. rep.tools says 100 free days with a reminder at day 90 and ¥20 per further 100 days; KakoGuide says 180. Either way, you have time to let a spreadsheet haul build up in the warehouse before shipping it as one box, which is how the agent route saves money in the first place.

Verdict: Compare an AliExpress price with KakoBuy's total after exchange rate and payment fee, not with the yuan price on the listing.

A first KakoBuy order, step by step for AliExpress shoppers

If you have only ever ordered from AliExpress, a first KakoBuy order has a few more stages. In order:

1. Paste the listing link (Weidian, Taobao or 1688) into KakoBuy's search. Links from other agents need converting first; the link converter strips any agent wrapper back to the original listing.
2. Pick size and colour in the remark if the listing options are in Chinese. Measurements in centimetres help; the size converter maps EU and US sizes to Chinese ones.
3. Pay for the item. KakoBuy buys it and the seller posts it to the warehouse.
4. Check the QC photos. Ask for a measurement photo if the size is borderline. Return or exchange now, while it's still in China.
5. Submit the parcel, choose a line and pay for shipping. This is where rep.tools' one-day median starts counting.

That is more work than an AliExpress checkout. It's worth it when the parcel holds several items from different shops, or when the item simply isn't on AliExpress.

If a KakoBuy parcel is lost or damaged, what then?

KakoBuy's weakest point, according to rep.tools, is what happens after something goes wrong in transit. Insurance claims are judged strictly, compensation is often paid as coupons rather than cash, and refunds can be slow. rep.tools advises filming the unboxing of any expensive parcel. The Trustpilot page reflects the split: 66% of reviews are five-star but 22% are one-star, a wider gap than the 4.1 average suggests.

AliExpress's dispute system is not quick either — its own 1.9/5 Trustpilot score is mostly complaints about refunds — but it does have a formal window and a fixed process. With an agent, your protection is the QC stage and the insurance you buy. Use both.

Verdict: Insure expensive KakoBuy parcels and keep an unboxing video. That habit matters more than which agent you picked.
